With such varied opinions out there about the benefits of e-cigarettes, we feel it’s important to present the facts as clearly and concisely as possible so you can make up your own mind.

To help you to do so we thought you should know about a study carried out by researchers at University College London (UCL) that discovered smokers are 60% more likely to quit with electronic cigarettes – interesting reading for anyone looking for ways to break the habit.

Successful study on e-cigarette use

When a leading university decides to conduct a national study it’s a big deal. So when UCL reported the findings of their five-year research into the effectiveness of e-cigarettes in online journal, ‘Addiction’ we couldn’t wait to have a read.

More than 5,000 smokers, all of whom had tried to quit before with the help of prescription medication and/or professional support, took part between 2009 and 2014, and the results were incredibly encouraging. As the UCL website states: “People attempting to quit smoking without professional help are approximately 60% more likely to report succeeding if they use e-cigarettes than if they use willpower alone or over-the-counter nicotine replacement therapies such as patches or gum…”

This is backed up by Professor Robert West, senior author of the study who said: “E-cigarettes could substantially improve public health because of their widespread appeal and the huge health gains associated with stopping smoking.

It should be remembered that all this success was on the back of the older generation of e-cigarettes before refillable e-liquid cartridges were introduced in sturdier more fashionable mods, so there is even more opportunity for the growing community of vapers to win in their battle against cigarette addiction and kick that habit for good.

Quit smoking and start saving

Stop Smoking Start SavingOur motto at The London Vape Company is ‘QUIT SMOKING, START SAVING’, and if nothing else, the financial gain from vaping rather than smoking should encourage you to look into this most modern of addiction kickers. As an example, if you are a 20-a-day smoker and you swap your cigarettes for the equivalent nicotine level in e-liquid you could easily save yourself £200 a month. Then with the four nicotine strengths most of the flavours come in, you can decide how and when to reduce your intake while vaping to a point where you are still performing the action of smoking but without all the toxins when you graduate to our nicotine-free range.

As more research is done into the benefits of electronic cigarettes as a successful quitting aid for smokers, we will of course keep you informed. Visit our high street shop at East Barnet or our website for further information and advice – we’re here to help.
